i decided to try buying links for related sites, mostly blogs, and i've been sending out emails. i'm wondering how much to offer for the links, based on the site's traffic base. for example a pr5 site that's ranked 60000 in alexa is offering me a clean sidebar link that should show on all of their page. the site owner claims 200000 monthly pageviews and is asking for $100 a year. this seems like a decent deal, how does this compare with what you guys pay?

The price is good. When I purchase links for a year it ranges from $50-$1,000. The price I pay really depends on the industry and the backlinks of the site I am buying from. The more trust factors the site has the more I will pay. ;)

Hi Jake,

What would you expect from a link that you paid $500 for?

I baulked at paying Yahoo $299 for their directory, yet ,,,,

well Im in a non typical industry, with thousands of terms, thousands of competitors, tons of money to be made.

The top dogs in my industry all do the same. Conventionally this is not normally needed, in most industries I would imagine. However, if you do not buy links in my industry you will not make it to around the 3rd page of the SERPS (google at least).

My tactics have changed a great deal lately. I try to get exclusive deals for most b/c my comp.'s are rogue and will go behind me really fast and buy links on the same site.

Generally for 500 bucks you should expect at least some traffic from the links, as well as a site that doesn't have a bazillion links pointing off the page, so your links might actually get some weight. I usually have around 3-4 links in each deal as well, pointing to interior pages, mixing up the terms, etc. etc.
