How effective is cross linking now?
I mean for example

i link to site2.com from site1.com and site2.com links to site2.com

And is it cross linking if for example i link to
site2.com/car.htm from site1.com/index.html and site2 has link to site1.com/bmw.htm from site2.com/index.html?

If you're thinking of boosting the linked sites in SE's by doing it, it might not be very effective (it might do more harm than good, actually). If done carefully, in a natural way, it shouldn't be a problem, but if the plan is to create a link-farm and have all the sites haul each other up, forget about it. It's good for grab and dash, but not for long-term.
