One way links from the same domain

I wonder if having one way links from the same domain pointing your web site is ok? Lets say i have one way links from free sites like tripod.com, etc. and since the people i will exchange links will have that domain name pointing my web site how would it be considered by Search Engines? Any experinces or comments would be appreciated.

I've never seen a site with that kind of backlinks sustain itself in the long run.

If I understand your post correctly, you are promoting tripod.com site which points to your website. Right?

In this case your website will get PR passed on from your Tripod.com/yourdomain site.
