Directory Submission Services

Anyone have experience with these?

I recently launched a new website and instead of manually submitting to all the directories, I wanted to try out a submission service.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Some have noted a reduction in the efficacy of directory links. Also, there are some folks who own thirty or more directories and charge a fee for listing your site in all of them. I feel that's a poor value.

A few directory links makes sense when you place them on directories that might send you some traffic, but I think it's best not to rely on directories for the bulk of your backlinks.

There are a number of good directories out there and it's not a bad idea to list yourself in them. I don't need anyone to submit my sites to those because there just aren't that many that I would like my sites in.

Your mileage may vary.

Stay away from them. Do the legwork yourself.

Yes, you have to be careful, but there are some great directory submission services out there. The guys will vary the title/description of your site from directory to directory so that the search engines don't see anything unscrupulous.

They'll submit your site to 100-150 free directories for something like $40. That money might go a long way in India, but it's peanuts for most people in the West. I'd rather outsource something like directory submission for $40 than waste two weeks doing it myself. It's a tedious task.

There are a number of good directories out there...

And a lot of directories with less- or no value.

Thanks!

[edit reason] We don't list so-called "resources" of directories. Thanks. [/edit]

There are loads of huge lists of directories floating around, but what you really need is the notes to go with them. Are they free or paid, do they require a reciprocal link, and do they pass PR? It's also nice to know how regularly they are updated, how big they are and whether they have special requirements.

I know of a couple of well-annotated lists, sticky me if you're interested.
