I am an webdesigner from Argentina, Buenos Aires. I designed my company website and I am currently learning about SEO and trying to optimize the site.
I need to purchase and install a "link management system" that would allow me to
* send customizable template emails to other webmasters asking to exchange links
* allow other webmasters to submit reciprocal links to my site
* check automatically if links are active
* etc, etc
I would appreciate if any of you guys could give me some advice on how to choose the best software and if you can recommend me one that you already use.
My website is hosted in a Windows Server 2003 and it supports ASP and ASP.NET

Most link management software leave huge footprints. The most common example of a footprint is “power by XZY Script”. Often there are other footprints that are not as obvious. Most “Terms of Service” agreements say you cannot remove or modify their script. Now what if a bunch of aggressive spammers start using this software? Your site could be put into the same neighborhood as them. What if a Search Engine decides this software is used to artificially generate links? They could use the footprint to devalue all the links connected to that script. If you are in this game for the long term I would just FTP the links. It only takes a minute and you maintain the integrity of your site.
I also would defiantly avoid e-mail templates. They end up being caught by Spam filters or deleted. Send emails out manually and keep them short. You will get a much better response rate.
