Do you send link exchange requests directly to webmaster@site.com?

Or, do you try to pick an address off the website itself?

I haven't done the volume of link exchanging that I want to start doing, so before I start my first large link-building campaign, I want to make sure I'm doing things in an optimum manner. This question seems too basic to ask but I'm not sure which choice is the most effective one.

Find the address on the website.

If there isn't an address on the website that speaks to the issue of trading links, is finding any "contact us" e-mail address on the site still preferable to a "webmaster@" e-mail address?

I don't use a webmaster@example.com address. Therefore, I'm pretty sure that any mail coming to that is either junk or is from somebody too lazy to find the "contact" link at the bottom of each page.

Yes, find any contact address on the site. As a webmaster, I would immediately trash a request to a default email. It is usually the result of automated crap. If a person can't be bothered to look around my site for two minutes for a proper contact address, I certainly am not going to waste MY time looking at their site to consider it for a link.

And please, find the email as a human LOL. I absolutely hate getting duplicated link mail to all four emails listed on a site because someone scraped it for my address. That will make me hit delete faster than any other thing when it comes to link requests.
