I recently read that adding a TITLE tag to your inbound links could help rankings. I realise that the TITLE tag in the HREF is a good idea anyway and works in the same way as the ALT tag does but has anybody had any experience with this so i can get a real idea on how it may effect rankings if at all.

Thanks.

I have to say that I am skeptical. My own experiences suggest that you may hit a filter of some kind. If you use those tags you should do it as part of a carefully balanced HTML design. I am sure that many webmasters use them for spamming and of course search engines have to deal with that problem.

I've used title tags onsite and offsite, they seem to work well. They certainly add a little extra weight to your site, and also help with regards accessibility.

<sideways step>

That's not nessarily true if you have named you links well.

A screen reader will read the link, then say link, and the then read you title text, so it can be a hinderance.

Good link naming should be the empahsis

i.e. no:

<a href="#" title="click here to go to ....">click here</a>

</sideways step>

Seems to give the page more relevance for the term than the destination. Now alt tags are a different story....
