I am working on making an animated gif using Photoshop. I discovered how to easily make an animation by putting all the images in one folder and having Photoshop automatically make an animation out of them. I disovered how to "tween" new images to make smooth transitions. I discovered how to make some images show for longer than the tweened images.

Now (my boss wants) to get the animation to start when the mouse pointer goes over it.

It's okay if it runs once when the page is loaded. But we want the user to be able to restart the animation with a rollover (or maybe a click) but we don't want the animation to run continuously.

Thanks much!

Afaik, this isn't possible with a regular .gif image - you need to use a javascript 'onmouseover' event handler to accomplish this.

However, I'm far from even an "intermediate" user with photoshop, and only know the basics. Perhaps a more accomplished graphics pro could chip in with a bit of advice?

If you have image ready then you need to make the over layer the animated gif. Jeremy is correct that this is a javascript thing. You need to make sure that the gif animation lengtyh is once and not forever.
