To preload or not to preload

should the same image be preloaded on every page?

I use the same rollover images on each page of my site. My question is should I preload them on every page? If the images are loaded once, they're in the cache, but what I'm not sure of, is if the preload over-rides the images in the cache. If I remember correctly it doesn't, but just want to double check.

The major factor to think about here is whether or not people will be visiting various pages of your site without going through the main page. If they are, then you need to preload on every page. If people will always come through a home/main page, then you only need to preload on the main page.
