Google for a Java Water applet... There's several variations.

I wouldn't recommend ever using a Java applet for a visual effect. That particular link froze my copy of Opera5/Mac for about two minutes, and then didn't work at all when the page finally finished loading... When I tried to view it in IE5/Mac, the page also took forever to load (though it didn't completely lock everything up), and still no special effects when it was done... So cross-browser compatibility is an issue, even if the load times are reasonable.

When I realize (on my home dial up connection) that a page is loading one of the apparently more reliable "rippling water" applets... I leave. That one takes longer to load than all but the most obnoxious Flash splash pages. The load time is something to seriously consider if more than 1-2% of your visitors are on dial up connections.

I completely agree with mivox: it looks cool, but isn't very friendly, java applets do crash some browsers... Not something I'd use on a production site (unless the client absolutely couldn't live without it)

That stuff gets annoying fast... But go download Anfy Java... They should have an applet like that.

Thanks for the tips! Anfy Java had exactly what I was looking for but I think you have to pay to use it?

And yes, I should not use it on the site, no fun!

That takes forever to run, but it is free if linking to the developers site is considered free. This [durius.com] is what they are using.
