Would someone please ring the bell as this is my first post!

I'm crafting a small site for a (Personal Chef) client. When chatting yesterday he said he had a video tape (turned into a MPEG) of his recent TV interview and would like it added to the site.
Well, this is a first for me.
Any suggestions where I might go to read up on the surrounding issues?

Regards,
Styx

Can you provide more details re. your requirements, e.g. type of site, file size, res...

normally, you can link to an mpeg file without any problems. mpeg files can then be played on most systems with a lot of video-players, many of them are build in.

the best of it: mpeg is stream-able, so while still downloading, the parts already downloaded can be played back. keep the filesize in mind because of downloading time!

The 'model' for the site is at: <snip>
Just settling on a layout & colors now - all the links are inactive save the enlarged picture.
I use a simple tool CuteSiteBuilder formerly Trellix.

I have often added PDFs to sites & use a fuction available to me to set up a file for download .. could it be as simple as setting up to download the MPEG rather than the PDF?

STYXandSTONES I think you should remove the URL as per TOS [webmasterworld.com]

A simple link to the mpeg should automatically open the meia player. But as hakre said keep in mind the size of the file for download time.

Leo, thank you for the two comments..
From the former I assume I'm able to go back and edit my earler post. Not sure how it's done but I will puzzle it out & remove the URL.
As to the latter Hmmm.. to my way of thinking the file is HUGE .. 500Mb. I know I can snip off some intro & trailer but assume it will still be over 400MB. Sounds too large.
What techniques/tool would you suggest.. or point me to some reading..
Regards, Styx
PS: Went to the help facility & learned to edit a post by clicking on 'owner edit'. Used it to add this PS. But the icon is missing on my earlier posts.
Do you think there is a way to edit a prior post?

Hi STYXandSTONES

Adobe Premier is great for editing although there are many packages out there.

500 MB you are going to need to do a massive amount of editing ;)

hjsplit is a useful tool just determine your average file size, e.g. 10MB and watch it go.

Hi STYXandSTONES I also think that 500 meg is huge even for broadband connection, may be you could let people ask for a CD with the interview on ;)

It will need a lot of editing and even then I am not sure you will be able to reduce it enough to be small enough to be downloaded. How long is the video? may be you could split it into questions/answers to reduce the overal lenght and have x number of movies.

Take a look at Windows Media Encoder. It's a free, simple way of converting files (including MPEGs) into formats more appropriate for the web.

Could be wrong here, but if memory serves me correctly you can mark in/out points in the video to use it for simple editing too.

Thank you all for the suggestions..
I think I have enough information at this point to work on my own for a while..
