I have been wandering about the user-friendliness of a Director .dcr file? Would it be recommended that I import this into flash movie and then upload that? and what about videos would a .dcr file compress them or do I need to upload these separately?
I have tried looking for an answer in several Directo forums to no avail, but since I will be making a website based on Director/flash I thought some of the members here could help me out.
thanks in advance.

I have been wandering about the user-friendliness of a Director .dcr file?

Just load the dcr files as is onto html, asp, php etc. page, no need to import at all.

As shockwave plugins are auto detected by almost all browsers, if the wrong version is not loaded, it will with a one-click warning message do so.

the video will be in the director file, but the compression by it self is not that great. Flash MX uses the spark codec which does do an excellent job of compression. I am not sure if director supports spark. If it doesn't I would try and put them in Flash.

Most people do have the Flash plugin, but the shockwave plugin is not as common. The shockwave plugin is also quite a bit larger to download. I found in the past that people would rarely wait for the plugin load unless it was some killer content like a game.

The director plugin is _not_ something I'd choose to download unless I absolutley needed it...

I find the plugin is a little clunky and slow... Flash would be the best option if its available :)

I would say most people are like that... similarly most people wouldn't be at your website "unless they absolutley needed to be"! :)

So couldn't I just import the .dcr file into Flash and then export that as a .swf movie? Would this require the shockwave plug in or will the flashplayer suffice?

Thanks for the quick response everyone.
