Editing photos in a PS 7 layer

Hi,

I have a PSD file that I have downloaded, and I are trying to edit the photos in a layer. In this one particular layer, (layer23) it has two photos in it, but these two sets of photos show up in 2 different places on the PSD.

If I click on the eye symbol to hide this layer, both sets of 2 photos in the PSD file dissapper.

What I am trying to find out is, can I edit this layer so the photos can be moved or deleted individually? I want to move just two of the photos, not all four at one time.

The original two layers have been merged and are now one layer > nothing you can do about this "after the original was saved".

You could > use one of the marquee tools to select the approximate area of each image (one at a time) copy > open a new document > paste > and drag back in as a new layer (both) then delete the original merged layer.

I agree with fathom.

You have to create two new layers from the one you have, then delete the original layer.

Unless your two original photos have become inextricably merged, this is fairly straight forward

New document? Two new Layers?

show up in 2 different places on the PSD

1. Select the Layer
2. Choose the Box-Marquee and surround one of them photos. (Press M)
3. Press Ctrl + X
4. Press Ctrl + V (a new layer will be added automatically)

That's it.

Thanks for all the information guys. I managed to get it sorted out.

I have run into another problem. When I use the save for web application, I end up getting two sets of images. One set named after the psd file name, (i.e index.33.gif) and another set named with individual names like ButtonOurProducts.gif.

Could someone please kindly explain to a simpleton like my self how I can fix this.

Do I have to delete all the slices and re-do them?

That is exactly what PS does, saves you two files.

Personally, I save the optimised web file in a folder that is part of the web site. And the PSD file (if I think I am going to need it again) at another location on my hard disk (make a new folder for PS files)

If you only save the gif or jpeg optimised file, you will loose all your layers. The PSD file keeps all the layers if you think you will need to edit it again.

You can use "save as" to rename the files when you are saving them

Image rollovers > it's basically making for you the "on-mouseover state" and "on-mouseoff state".

If you haven't varied the selections at all > e.g. change text color you won't notice any difference.
