Hi,
I am trying to make a quick logo with just a bit of blue text and a red line. I made it in PSP 7, saved it as .gif and it looks very bad. The link to the logo is (removed - sorry) can anyone offer any advice on creating a half decent logo for someone who is not good with graphics? :)

I have fireworks MX also - but I don't know how to use either packages properly :(

Thanks
Furhan

If you don't know how to use the package and you're not very good at graphics, I would suggest you get someone who has the above credentials to do it for you!

Get in touch with your local design school and see if you can get a design student to do it for you. That will probably cost you a six-pack and they'll do an infinitely better job than you.

Sorry to be brutally honest, but I saw your link before it got removed and your attempt was abismal (even allowing for the poor .gif compression).

If you really don't want to pay anything for it, I would forget a logo - plain HTML text would actually be better.

Ouch.

So I guess its a no hoper :(

I guess I'll have to get someone to make it for me.

The logo didn't look that bad on screen - honest.

Save it as a .psd and open it in fireworks and see if it is any different.

THe .gif compression on fireworks IMO is better than PSP.

Furman,

Sorry, I'm known to be brutally honest - but that's just my opinion so you have to take it with a pinch of salt anyway!

I have used design students before to do stuff for me, and they're usually very willing and ludicrously cheap. It's well worth it.

Most high-end gfx packages come with tutorial projects... try running through a good PS tutorial, and then give it another go. :) There are too many little details about using photoshop for me to guess which one would do the most good in your case.

But if the logo is for something really important, even if you were experienced with photoshop, it might be best to get a logo specialist to give it a go for you... the logo is the visual cornerstone of a business, and should be the last bit of graphics they even consider skimping on.
