Im in the need of a few new windows icons, and i dont feel like downloading and playing with various icon editors.

Can paintshop pro or photoshop create windows icons? if so, what format do i save them in?

No in photoshop. I don't know about PSP.

Most specifically result #1, and number 4 on the list. Maybe that is what you are looking for.

The file format would be .ico (Windows Icon), and PSP can't handle that.

But as I just found out by testing, you can also use Windows Bitmaps (.bmp) for your icons.

You can use just a .bmp file but if you want different size/resolution icons then you'll need an icon editor.

Try searching for "Windows icon editor" and look for shareware downloads... there are a few good icon programs out there. I'm using Iconographer on my Macintosh, and I can create Windows icons (.ico files) without a problem.

Lots of people are using PNGs for icons on XP now that it fully supports the transparency thing better. No jaggedness that way.

i dont know if it can read PNGs directly like bitmaps, but you can always convert to .ico

Use Axilias Icon Workshop. Very nice, like photoshop, only for icons.
