I'm looking for a particular dingbat font set which includes a 2d "wireframe" globe (see above link for a pic) I used to have this but I lost it when my hard drive crashed. Can anyone help?

Is there any more info you have on the font. Do you know what it started with or anything else about it.

Do a google search for omaha dings. Might be the one you're looking for.

Thanks for the tips and no, I don't have any more information on the font set I need.
I already tried Omaha Dings - the only set I can find has loads of recycling icons etc but I can't see that globe in the set at all.

The closest I came to is a dingbat font called Tapestry but the globe in that has more horizontal lines on it.
Is there a freeware app that would allow me to create the font from an illustrator file etc? I need to save it as a font so that I can import it into a 3D text app like Ulead 3D or Xara.

I think I have the font you're looking for. It's called Geographic Symbols and I have no idea where I got it but it's on a CD with thousands of fonts I've collected over the years. Contact me via the website in my profile and I'll send you a link to download it from my website.

Omaha Dings: Download the font from the second link on google search and install it. Then you can get the globe with SHIFT+(whatever button is next to the backspace) and then space.

Sinner_G thanks for the info but I cannot reproduce the globe with the OmahaDings font. :(
When I use the "+" symbol, all I get is a "Recyclable Paper" icon.
I use "The Font Thing" to manage my fonts and when I view all available characters in the font set, I see no sign of that elusive globe.
You can see a screenshot of the font manager window, listing all the characters in the font set here: (32Kb)

Gary, thanks for the help too - but the Geographical Symbols globe is different to the one I want and since it's for our corporate logo, I want the same one.

Your screenshot says 'sample' so not all characters on there. It's difficult to say how you can reproduce it, since I'm on a swiss german keyboard and can't say which key it would be on an english one. As said, for me it is SHIFT+(key just left of the <- key) and then space. The '+' means to hold the shift key and hit the key left of backspace.

Thinking of it, are you on Mac or PC?

HobWebs, sometimes collections of fonts come on the CDs with software, like Corel Draw. Is it one you're sure you downloaded, or could it be that you got it with some software?

Sinner_G, thanks for the clarification but the globe in the Omaha Dings set is the same as that in the Geographical Symbols set. See here [hobwebs.com...] for a comparison of the one I'm looking for (on the left) and the one in the OmahaDings set (on the right)

Marcia, thanks but I've already been through the Corel9 cd and Publisher cd's I have. :)

There are a ton of free dingbat fonts at dingbatpages.com... don't know if they'll have the specific font you're thinking of, but one of their fonts might have a globe you can use.

Great suggestion, mivox. I found the font he's looking for and this time I am positive. Find your way to the website mivox mentioned and you'll find the font in the arrows section. It's called Bullet Balls. Even with my bad eyesite I am sure this is the one you're looking for.

Thank you GaryK and mivox! Would you believe I've gone through so many categories at the Dingbat Pages site but never imagined looking at the "Arrows" section.
I feel so silly. :)
Thanks again everyone - this is an awesome resource with some very helpful people.

I don't think I would have looked under "arrows" if I was wanting to find a globe either. ;)
