Facebook mulls tagging pics with 'radioactive' markers

Facebook researchers have developed a digital watermarking technique that allows developers to tell if a particular machine-learning model was trained using marked images.

"We call this new verification method 'radioactive' data because it is analogous to the use of radioactive markers in medicine: drugs such as barium sulphate allow doctors to see certain conditions more clearly on computerized tomography (CT) scans or other X-ray exams,” the eggheads explained on Wednesday.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could do the same? This tech is intended for FB only ... apparently they have concerns with folks ripping them off. :)

I guess this radioactive marking works mainly because current implementations of AI are still flawed in that they can easily be misled and hyper-train on minor non-relevant details in images. Small changes to an image may cause totally different result as explained in this article AI image recognition fooled by single pixel change [bbc.com]
