Simple Question @ MAC platform...

what format does wallpaper need to be?

Hi,

I use a Wintel PC system and occasionaly make desktop wallpapers from my jpegs. I re-save the jpeg as a bitmap image and then put it in the windows directory.

In the past I've found that trying to put a jpeg as wallpaper on your desktop can be a quirky proposition (like having to make your desktop an "active desktop" which I don't like). This is why I use the bitmap format for wallpapers.

QUESTION:

If I want to make wallpapers for people on a MAC platform, can they use a bitmap image? Or do I need to save the file in another format? If so, which format would be the "proper" one to use for the stated purpose?

Usually the images tend be jpg or pict but bitmap works as well.

I wasn't familiar with PICT. I just tried saving an image as .PCT using PaintShopPro. It seems to be the MAC equivalent of Windows bitmap, in so far as being a lossless format.

But if MAC systems can handle bitmaps, then I may just go with that since I won't need to create multiple files for the same image to upload.

I'd go for jpegs... I'd bet a gif could work too, but I've never tried it... hold on a moment.

Yup. JPG, BMP, GIF or PCT will all work in System 9. I'd assume they'd all work in System 8 as well.

Don't know about OSX though.
