photoshop mask tool

cant figure this one out...

i added a "new mask layer" to a layer.

used the gradient tool black/white to give it that faded erased look...

now the mask tool will not let go?

i cant use the move tool, and the red mask layer seems to be stuck on every layer..

what to do?

Unless I'm mistaken you are in quick-mask mode.

Try clicking the quick-mask button in the bottom of your tools palette.

i was looking all over the place for that...

now that i think about it, the tutorial i was following said "Press the Q button...." which i forgot to press again.

Click Add Layer mask - at bottom of layers panel - do gradient on the mask. White to black gradient
