100's of images lost their 'filetype' extension

How to reassign?

Hi all,

I have 600 odd images on my computer but for one reason or another, they are all saved with a .au file extension (which windows interprets as an 'AU Format Sound' filetype).

My problem is they are all images and were originally .jpgs, .gifs, .pngs etc.

Anyone know how I can automatically buzz through them and reassign their original file extensions? I have "Irfanview" which recognises and corrects them if I open one by one but would be good to know if I can do en masse?

You could run a batch process, take a looky here: [webmasterworld.com...]

It doesn't cover Irfanview but, if the ability is there, I'm sure it will give you some ideas.

you can use irfanview

file -> Batch/Conversion/Rename and then choose your options
