how do i center a layer within a layer

I'm trying to center text in the exact middle of a layer in photoshop cs3.. how do I do it?

Hi blzalewski

Draw a text box the width of your layer, and justify your text centre in the paragraph palette.

You can use co-ordinates and widths entry fields to get it pixel perfect.

You can also link the layers together and use the align buttons (I still use CS1-not sure if CS3 still does this) which appear at the top of the screen when you have the move tool selected.

Yes i agree with akmac. But will just simply the process to you so that you don't find it hard to get the result.

Step 1: Select (Highlight) the Main Layer for which you need to align the text.

Step 2: Then press "ctrl" and Select (Highlight) the TEXT Layer.

Step 3: Then Select "Align Vertical Center" and "Align Horizontal Center" respectively.

{NOTE: Align Option located under File Tab i.e above the Canvas}

That's it!
