How to get Chinese characters into Photoshop...

How do I produce graphics incorporating chinese text, on a english Windows based PC? Are there any plug-ins out there that allow me to paste either double-byte or similar into photoshop?

Just a suggestion but when you type things into cells in MS Excel (which no doubt has your character set) if you copy and paste the cells into photoshop they come out as a picture

perhaps an avenue to go down if you cant find anything else

with PSP I ended up having to do screen captures of Word documents

the next edition of PSP is supposed to have Unicode support...I'll wait and see

I also discussed it on the PSP Usenet group...where I was informed by Jasc that they would take it on board and make the next version support Unicode

anyone using Photoshop should put pressure on the manufacturer to start thinking internationally

Although I think Unicode variants have done great harm to the web, for graphics I think this is an outstanding idea. How best to put pressure on the majors? ...hmm

Last summer, on the basis that PhotoShop Elements please refrain from sniggering could enter Asian text from an English OS was purchased by yours truly, as I only needed to mess around with a few graphics with Asian text in a PhotoShop environment without the price. So far, so good.

So PhotoShop Elements CAN handle chinese characters? Is there a trick to it? It would seem very strange that Adobe's 'discount' photo editor would have a feature their 'Pro' model didn't support...

What version of photoshop are you using, rpking? Would an upgraded version perhaps offer the functionality you need?

It works for me...Windows 2000 English OS with the off-the-shelf IME stuff installed I can directly input Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean. I'm sure it would work the same for any of the other Asian languages as well.

Success! Installing Ming Liu font on Photoshop 6.0 allows chinese charaters to be used.

My problem was that this doesn't seem to work in Photoshop 5.5...

Photoshop 6 introduced a LOT of major (and long overdue) upgrades into Photoshop's text handling capabilities, which probably explains why 5.5 can't handle Asian fonts, but 6 can....

With v.7 coming out any day, I'd advise any 5.5 users to save their pennies and pre-order the v.7 upgrade if they're interested in the expanded text editing features. PSP users should send lots of demanding letters to their R&D department, and keep their fingers crossed...

I can't see any reason why (with the hardware capabilities of today's computers) all the major graphics software companies shouldn't immediately make their image editing software 100% capable of handling both vector & bitmap editing functions, including support for complex text characters.
