Are there any open source 3D Graphic programs out there? Inkscape and GIMP I'm finding are more for working with photos. I want to make my own graphics. I need to select and cut objects. I want to build a scene and have that scene be the background for my website. Hope I'm making sense. I've tried a trial version of 3D Max 7.0 (loved it!) but my trial has expired. :-( Any help will be much appreciated. TIA!

try out zbrush ..for your money it's probably the most powerfull of the paid for 3D apps out there in terms of bang for buck..
then there is bryce ..not free poser ..not free maya ..definately not free ..
then some other specialist stuff
then you get to roll your own
