Hey Guys:

I am new in this forum... but had a really quick question concerning images.

I edit pictures usinng MS Digital Pro... OK Stop laughing....

When I load the pictures of my products into the site they come out clear a little grainy, but clear. However the edges of the products are not straight when they are supposed to be... more like very tiny jagged lines...

I maintain the same aspect ratios... though I do shrink them down a bit... even when I save them as thumbnails they look the same.... all except if I enlarge them to a 3x5 inch size.

Doesn anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

This is very general as I know nothing about the software you use but some possibilities are: -

Repeated processing: Aim to do everthing in one go if you use a single software package and save in a lossy format like jpg/gif - so trim, colour/brilliance adjust, resize and save.

Compression: See if you can find out if the software is degrading your image by compressing it.

Are you forcing a size on those images once they are on their destination page? Take the size off for a test and see if that clears up the issue. If it does, then the size you are forcing is not correct which would cause the distortion.

Thanks guys!

Yes the size that I am forcing it to is the cause....

Any idea how to remedy this?

Is it my photo editing software or does this happen to everyone?

How do ddifferent people handle this issue?

Thank you!

Hello,

First let me say I am no expert. But I think you need to re-size the image before exporting them and putting them on the page.

Find out what size they need to be exactly on the page, say 320px X 400px then re-size them to that dimension, save and you should be fine.

Of course, you need to worry about aspect ratio so a little plannig ahead always helps. At worse you can usually crop the image a little so you can keep the ratio if you get yourself in a bind.

I'm using Micosoft Digital Image Pro for all picture editing.

Till now, I have not had a problem, but I suspect that because my images were larger they looked better.

The small images - about thumbnail size, or slightly larger seem somehat distorted. Not quite the clean image one would expect on a site.
