Is there some online books, tips some one could recomend for a newbie how to start with fireworks most people i have talked to say its a greate tool so i will have to learn.

I'm pretty sure we've had recommendations for Fireworks tip sites before...

Check the "site search" link at the top of the page for "Fireworks" and see what turns up. I know toolman mentioned a lot of great resources in earlier Graphics forum threads.

(You can also scroll to the bottom of the Graphics Forum page [webmasterworld.com], and set your options to <View: "All"> in this forum, and browse through the old threads... Lots of good info on Fireworks)

playingwithfire.com and fwzone.com are pretty decent for basics. Other than that, my suggestion is take what you know and run. I always learn best by just jumping in and playing around.

i could not recommand more to start with the Macromedia tutorial itself. it's available for free on the download site, along with the demo of the software. all Macromedia tutorials are really extremely well done if you're a beginner, or if you need tips on upgrades.

Try an advanced search on our friend Google and search for .pdf files you should be spoilt for choice.

Personally, I did not find any advatages of Fireworks over Photoshop. I have used Photoshop for years and years. I got a bundle of Macromedia software with Firewroks as part. In some respects I found Adobe Web Ready (a Photoshop companian app for web images) to have much more versitility and feature.

But, it can never hurt to know more software. Marco Medias web site should have some very indepth help files and tutorials on Fireworks. I know it does for Dreamweaver.

please, no photoshop vs fireworks guerrilla here...

i have been using photoshop since v. 2.5, i loved it, then i discovered fireworks and i switched.

they are NOT the same software, and for high resolution print work, photoshop is still the best soft available, as most people know.

but...

fireworks uses an "object-based" interface, where every element of the page is a selectable element. it is vector based, and web optimisation is still far superior to photoshop's. and by using vector's, it drastically reduces the need to use illustrator for shapes and drawing, THEN photoshop for effects and exportation.

some features are now quasi-obsolete, such as text that stays editable no matter what, since photoshop finally implemented it, and scaling is way more precise in photoshop than anything else i tried. but overall, fireworks is an incredible tool, with dozens of extremely designed built-in features and extremely well built export/optimisation in an all-in-one package.

so please, enough with photoshop. they do have a (very successful) challenger, and they definitely lost their monopoly.

Hey, no need for any tension here! I think we all recognize that both programs have their advantages and disadvatages... :)

And finding a good tutorial resource (the original topic of the thread) will help anyone get the most out of whichever program they choose.
