Just read this thread on Market Penetration of Media Players [webmasterworld.com], but it didn't quite answer a question I've been turning over in regards an upcoming project.
We're going to be doing some short (30 seconds to 3 minutes long) movies as supplemental info for articles.
Either way, we're going to watermark the movies, and we're not particularly concerned about people stealing the movies.
What we are concerned about is reaching as broad an audience as possible, including portable devices: Video iThingamapods, PDAs, Video Cel Phones, etc.
The numbers I've seen point to MPEG as the right format.
Flash has numerous advantages, in terms of what we can do with it, even making some of the videos interactive, but I just don't see it as viable for the portable device market.
Am I deluded? Or on track with thinking we should stick with MPEG?
