I have a number of images, of various sizes, and need to crop to a ratio of 240px x 320px;. Then, saving the final image, I can resize to the needed dimension. Can somebody connect the dots for me?

Way easy. :)

Select your crop tool. Now go up to your toolbar and enter the dimensions you want in the width and height boxes. Now do your crop. You're done.

Are you looking to have all of your images cropped to this specific ratio in one big bang?

If so, Photoshop Actions are particularly wonderful.
The only problem I see is the fact that your originals are of different sizes.

D_Blackwell,

If you are using ASP.net, try searching the big G with 'ASP.Net DrawImage'

If you are using PHP, try searching ' PHP imagecopyresampled'

Nothing feels better than watching Photoshop go to work on a folder full of images, opening, editing, closing - and you watch time speed up. So wonderful.

The flip side is, there is no worse feeling than accidentally overwriting your originals reducing them to thumbnail size...
