Audio Streaming

I am the current webmaster for our church and I'm still learning a great deal. We would like to be able to stream our Pastor's sermons in MP3's. Right now I have them as links and you download them. He would like for them to be able to listen as it is downloading (Streaming?) We would like to look into video presentations as well, like a Welcome video or something less than 2 minutes long. Any ideas on how to get these files to stream instead of straight downloading. This is the website

Thanks for your help. Also how difficult is it to setup a 2003 Server and host the site ourselves?

You may want to take a look at 'Wimpy Button' for a slick way to distribute your MP3's. I wouldn't dream of trying to host my own sit when services like Pair Networks do a great job for about $5 a month.

i am using it to stream wmv files from a linux server. it is great!

stay away from the wimpy button it does not work well for dialup users the sample breaks up doing playback. there is no way to make the sample fully load before starting to play and this will cause the breaking.

My understanding of streaming (which may be wrong) is that a streamed audio/video clips starts before the full clip loads.

I don't think mp3's do stream. I link directly to a 150 Kb mp3 - that's a 20 second clip, recorded at 56Kb per second. I warn dial-up users of a long delay. They get something like 3-5 Kb per second so 150Kb could take 30-50 seconds before they hear it.

Yes, you're right: mp3 itself is not suitable for streaming but there are ways to encapsulate the encoding and use streaming&buffering on short audio pieces. Flash does that but the mp3 must be first converted to swf.

I found a great program that will stream up to four hours of MP3 even a sermom its
MP3 sound stream I have now used it and am very happy with the results for my MP3 song samples. It is also very easy to use
