Hey,

I'm in search of a United States Map that has a rollover for each state (just the eastern states). Has anyone done this or have suggestions for it, I didnt really want a large map so I'm worried about smaller states like Rhode Island where it would be really hard to percisely put your mouse over. And most of the maps I have found take a long time to load the rollover images, is there another approach to this?

thanks

This seems perfect for Flash, especially if you can get a good vector map of the area you want.

For 3 bones and some time coloring in the states this would work great:

I was thinking flash, and I think maybe that's the way to go. I hate dealing with preloaded images and image maps... so outdated :)
i'd have to offer an alternative to flash, which may just be a list of states rather than dealing with the map rollover.

thanks for the link and help

it's funny how many times people try to do the ol' 'rollover the states' thing... someone really should come up with a kick-ass code for it.

What if you pulled the old remote rollover trick? Have your region map, and whenever someone rolls over their chosen state, some text of whatever you're trying to convey comes up to the right... just a thought. I don't know what information you're relaying to the user.. maybe if you told us what the map should do, you might get a better answer?

As far as pre-loading, I can't think of a way to do it image-wise without pre-loading. All the CSS no-preload tactics I know of would have trouble handling abstract shapes like states. As far as Rhode Island goes... that's what they get for being so annoyingly small. Just screw em and call it "Massachussets Peninsula" on your map.
