Please don't do it. Every poor soul who visits the page would have to download the Flash plugin, wait for the flash file download, and then suffer through the animation. Depending on how obnoxious you make it, a proportion of your visitors will leave, and you'll look back in 6 months and wonder: "What was I thinking?"
I nifty effect you might try would be a translucent background, with an underlying image of a globe. Done well, this kind of page can look very slick; some blog templates use this sort of design.
(I saw a great example of this a few days ago, but I can't lay hands on it, so you'll have to make do with a so-so example; [meyerweb.com...]

You can find these all over the web using any search engine.... it makes a small file and because each gif was transparent, you could do fun things....
Sorry I can't remember where I got them.... but with a little work, you will find them.
