First, just say great site. I have learned a lot from you all so thank you.

By best mp3 encoder I mean a reasonable quality encoder suitable for voice with good cross browser/media player support.

I either <embed> mp3 clips to play on loading or use the html anchor <a ...> instruction to play on click.

I have tried Lame (3.97) and Fraunhoffer encoders. In my limited testing the Fraunhoffer 56Kb ps constant bite rate 22,050Khz Stereo, had widest support but poorer quality than I like.

Can anyone suggest a better encoder, or give more information on what choices are available?

Peter

Thanks, I did see that one but I was after information on cross browser/media player support for the various codec's used in creating mp3's.

I have only tested Fraunhoffer and Lame, with the Microsoft IE 6/Media Player 10 not playing the open standard Lame, maybe not to much of a surprise.

Both MS IE 6/Media Player 10 & Firefox/Quick Time 10 pluggin did support Fraunhoffer - at least at 56K ps setting.

Maybe my testing is flawed and I have got that wrong but I would be interested to hear anyone elses experiences of using mp3 on a web page.
