comparison between corel and adobe on text quality and other features

Recently I have become more and more stifled by Corel Photo-Paint 12's inability to properly render fonts in certain circumstances. Small fonts are muddy and sometimes severely lack legibility; I cannot step .5pt font sizes between fonts to get exactly what I want; attempting to place text on a path is a nightmare; and fonts render poorly when rotated; white fonts on black or navy backgrounds are rarely sharp, especially with small to medium fonts.

Are these issues addressed in Adobe Photoshop CS to everyone's satisfaction, or do they remain problematic? We are really looking to produce very crisp fonts in our site designs and its just becoming plain annoying at this point.

Id also appreciate anyone's input on Adobe Photoshop CS's ability to handle these items as well... When rendering a box with rounded edges we find that the rounding is more boxy and "chopped" looking, we need a very smooth rounding; a bulk of the 'effects' on Corel are unusable in a professional design, are Adobe's usable (such as glass, plastic and other texture and gradient effects)?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Adobe CS is what I regard as the most powerful graphics program. Text renders as crisp as you like -with the option to smooth further if required.

Selecting rounded rectangle, specify any corner radius you like and it will still come out smooth..

The only problem I come across is saving white text on transparent background-it didnt like it at all...

white text on transparent background

Thats something to do with Aliasing - with nothing to alias to the font will pixelate. I think you could get round this by using a temporary layer (white) then removing it, but that's just a theory...

Visca - I am very happy with CS - but no more so than any other version of Pshop. The added camera support necessary when working with RAW files is great. I have never noticed any weakening of fonts in photoshop, but then I usually work big and optimise so the room for font bugs is lessened.

I like photoshop but it does have one problem rotating text. Some of the letters will be roatated x degrees and the rest will be x+1 degrees. Only those who are anal retentive will notice but unfortunately it comes with the job. You have to rasterize the text and then rotate it to get a straight baseline.

Referring back to the white text on transparent background - I still cant get this to come out sharp; I've tried a tempory white layer with no luck..

As anyone had this problem before and managed to get round it?

Any help appreciated..
