Burning AVI movie to DVD

What would be the best procedure to burn a avi movie to DVD?

Any thing I need to know or is this pretty much straightforward process?

1. Convert AVI to MPEG2 using TMPGEnc or similar.
2. Burn to DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author or similar.

I think I can do that.

I have another question. The original movie is rather large in size which was ripped from a DVD but the one I edited which is now avi is smaller when played in Windows Movie Player.

I am not sure how to check the size of the original to ensure I am burning this copy to the same size as the original so any help on that will be great as well.

Do you mean the size of the video window or the file size of the video?
