Is there a way to make icons display on the internet page (rather than just favicons)?

You could just put an image inside your <a tag.

No way I know of to get ico's to automatically load with a link, ...like the "Favorites" are supposed to work in IE.

When a browser loads a page of links, the browser does not visit the site of each link to find an .ico file. So, you have to directly link to an image to get an appearance of a favacon... If I understand you correctly.

Are you asking if .ico files can be displayed as images? as in <img src="icon.ico">... the short answer is no. But with the right software you can convert your icon to a gif very easily. I use iconsushi - does what I need and is freeware too.

I've downloaded something called Irfan View now which converts images such as icons into gifs, pngs, jpgs and other weird formats. Even coverts them the other way round!
