On my personal website I have put up some short clips taken from my digital camera.

I originally put them up in Windows Media (WMV) format as the creation software came with Windows XP.

Some people said they couldn't view the videos though so I purchased Quicktime Pro to convert the videos to that format.

I did try to convert to MPEG, but it actually makes the files bigger when I convert them.

For the videos the settings I used where similar - Medium qualtiy for Broadband, I did try the dialup quality but they were not much good.

I only have dialup at home so I would like be able to upload just the one file and have most people be able to view it.

Thanks.

IMO mpeg would me the most supported format.

I tried using TMPEGEnc to convert them, but while it does a good job with the Video CD versions of the files, I can't seem to work out how to compress them to upload to the web.

I have played around with other conversion software, but a lot of them are really poor quality and I wouldn't buy them. The high end video editing software is out of my reach at the moment.

Thanks.

Doesn't Flash convert the video to frames, making a very large, jerky file?

Or make a codec available on the site. Something with th siye/quality of divx but without the legal issues, perhaps the MS MPEG4 codec for example.
