Webpages that suck had a link to this editorial. You can take any of the words "design" and make it "web design" and have it apply to web designers.

I hear this sound all the time, it’s the sound of design gasping for breath in the midst of our very own heyday. We designers do a lot of complaining, mostly about bad design that “other” people do, and how woefully misunderstood our profession is.

Yeah, good article. The AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Artists) web site also has some good articles on the business of design.
