Favicon problem

My favicon doesnt show up in safari

Hi

I have a strange problem. I have made a favicon that works great. Except when I name it favicon.ico, safari wont show it. I have noticed most sites use the name favicon.ico with success, but mine doesnt work.

If I name it icon.ico it works fine... or even whatever.ico except that then the newsreaders wont display the icon correctly.

Is there something Im missing here?

My link tag looks like this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

Does anyone have a clue?

Just a stab in the dark... It may just be a caching issue - I know that Safari has an issue with caching favicons. Have you tried quitting Safari, deleting ~/Library/Safari/Icons and restarting?

Thanx, that was exactly what happened. I was surprised that safari cached a non-favicon situation; one would think a missing favicon wouldnt be cached at all. Well, after emptying the caches and favicons, everything looks great.
