Yea, FW doesn't support multiple folders for its plugin import.

Fix:
Create a new folder in your FW program directory and copy all of the plugs-ins from the various PS folders into it. Then set that new directory as the PS plug-in folder in the FW folders preferences.

JK

Thanks for the tip. I have tried what you said and it looked to have worked. However if I attempt to use one of the filters from the xtras menu I get a warning that states "could not complete the request, an internal error occured".

Does that sound familiar?

I have tried relaunching the app. and restarting the machine to no avail

Some of the filters just don't work with FW. Plug-in and FW versions play into the problem. No documentation regarding this that I can find... trial and error is it.

I should say that only I have only gotten the image filters to function properly. Any that are specific to the PS interface including grids, guides, slices etc. do not function on my system.

Thanks jon

I have spent a morning testing the filters and none of them work.

Is there an image mode i need to be using before applying the filter to a selection. I assumed bitmap mode would work?

Perhaps Pshop 6 filters with FW4 are not compatible (I find that hard to beleive).

I have just tried the filters using FW6 and PS7, FW7 and PS7. Most worked fine...

Are you sure you have a bitmap selected before you run the filter? The program version differences may be the problem.

Worked fine on MX and PS6 & 7. So could be a Fireworks 4 bug?

Thanks for your help.
