I finally started to play around with using semi transparent pngs, including all the hacking needed to get IE into shape. I've noticed a rather major problem. Normally it's easy to get a background image wherever I want it, but you don't seem to have any control over the image when it's applied through the alphaimageloader.
Anyone know anything about this?
