I have an image with dimentions 2500 x 150

at the left side of this image there is my website logo the rest is unique patterning

i would like the excess patterning to be hidden as almost every web user will have a resolution below 2500

the main aim is that a user with a resolution of any thing below 2500 will only see enough of the image to fit in the window with out a scroll bar displayer the rest of the image that wont fit on the webpage

I'd suggest making the image a background of a table cell - that will eliminate the need for any side scrolling - you'll have to 'prop' the table cell open for proper height tho. I'd also recommend downsizing to maybe 1600 wide at most and save yourself some file size.

thanx ill try that file size isnt much of a problem as the rest of the page it "lite" and the title image is vector based so therefore can be lower than 40% quality jpg

if the image is vector based you would probably be better off using gif or png image formats, as these would be smaller file size

Hmm, well perhaps jpg would be the best for this particular image :)

There are a few different settings you can have for png which might reduce the file size.

What image editing program are you using?

That isn't strictly an "imaging" program. My guess is that the file outputted is actually a swf, and if you imported the image as a .png it would be big. And how many colours did you use for the .gif? The fewer the smaller.

Flash isnt designed as an imaging program but it certainly works well as one and it is vector based so there should be no difference to me using photoshop cs or coral i used 256 colours for the gif export.
