manage your images/photos?

How do you manage your images/photos? Been taking a lot of personal pics lately, but need a way to organize and manage them. I know there is software out there to buy, but really don't want to spend hundrends of bucks. Would prefer a non web based application.

Apple's iPhoto is what I use ... but there's no PC version so that won't help (I'm assuming you're on a PC). Have you searched the various shareware download sites?

Thanks, yes for now I am on PC. Haven't found any shareware/freeware. Maybe I am looking under the wrong terms. Been searching for image management or data asset management.

I have irfanview for screen caputring but how do you use it for image management?

I use IMatch for my photography files. The UI is a little off, but once you get used to it it is a great program.

I found a nifty little freeware app at www.webattack.com called Slowview. very versatile.lots of features. easy to use.

Also, from that page, found this real awesome software (free): FotoTime [fototime.com]. Try that.

I like ACDSee. It is up to version 6 or something now, but I stick with version 3.1 as it does everything I need without the bloat of more recent versions. It is also free (unlimited version) on the cover of a UK pc mag this month (computer arts i think)...

I like Portfolio by a company named Extensis, I believe there is a demo or trial you can download from their website. Not sure what version they are up to by now, but my old version has given me much satisfaction for several years.

I think that Picasa is hard to beat for image management and viewing (although IrfanView is my default viewer from explorer) Unfortunately, Picasa's image adjustment tools don't match up the the more mainstream editors...

Anyone played with Adobe Photoshop Album? I messed around with the free version and it looked pretty powerful.

Depending on what you need to do, the file browser in Photoshop is great for managing photos (it was seriously upgraded in the CS version). What are you trying to do with your photos? Browse them? Rank them? Store them? Watch them in a slide show? Photoshop's new file browser does all that. Not that it is free, but most people here have Photoshop, and it's the CS version that makes the file browser worth while. I watched an Adobe seminar on it and it was great.

I just toss them in folders with a date and description all inside the My Pictures folder. It's not real flexible, but it fits my needs fairly well.

I have been using Thumbs Plus for the last few years and I really like it, the latest version is great.

Ditto on ThumbsPlus. Using it to categorize, track and store over 20,000 photos (mostly digital photos, but also many film and slide scans). It was dog-slow until I read the Cerius Software support forums and implemented all the speed tweaks, and moved my database to a local drive rather than a shared drive. I've been wondering how useful the web-based version might be, since I'd prefer the database live on a share.

For me it's not so much the software - I use several packages and generally only use the graphics programs.

What I've been struggling with for ages is how to organize storing graphics and photos on my hard drive, properly organizing into folders. I've got a ton of graphics that I've made over a number of years scattered all over the HD, some in folders by the year.

It would be great to finally get them all organized and just put them all up online for download. Anyone have any ideas or tips for organization on the HD?

I just got PSCS and will check out the file management. Basically I want to be able to manage and organize images, along with keywords, comments, etc. I have many different folders, some with I named for one reason or another but can't recall now. So insstead of having to serach through them all, I want to do a quick search.

For example if I wanted to create an album either online or local of my dog. I can simply search for "dog" and all assocated pictures will come up.
