Can someone point me to a simple tutorial about how to create translucent png images using fireworks or paintshop pro. I used the gimp tutorial from the web, but the png i produced did not display properly on internet explorer 6.

Everyone i tried to create in paintshop and fireworks used the background color used when creating the file, or a greenish one when i used transparent.

Please someone help.

Cheers

Internet Explorer doesn't support translucency in PNG files.

Opera and Mozilla do.

explorer 5.2 on macintosh supports png-24 transparency--not many people use that browser though.

Acutally MSIE 5.5+ does, but only after you hit it with a javascript version of a sledgehammer. ;)

This is the main reason I have not moved to PNG, jpg and gif still work for me.

So because MSIE fails to natively support two aspects of PNG, you decided to ignore the rest? How often do you even used 8-bit transparency over binary transparency in a web image? And do you really need gamma correction for the same image?
