Editing Text in Fireworks

Hi,

I am quite, well very, new to Fireworks.

I have a template I would like to edit, only the text. I can double click over existing text, edit it, when I go to save it, it wants to save as a PNG file rather than the PSD file I have opened it in. I have tried to export it, but when I go to the HTML file, it just brings up the edited version as a JPEG, no links work. Also the original HTML file is 9K, anything I edit and save always goes to a HTML, pionting to a JPEG and is always only 1K.

This is really annoying me. I have searched and searched, I know it is something simple, but as I said I am new to MX/FW.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance......................

I'm not sure I understand your problem entirely.. but.. Fireworks has some features you should know about

Fireworks will open PSD's but will only save as a fireworks PNG - this is it's native format. if you want to save an image as a layered PSD.. you need photoshop.

if you export your image.. and you have set hotspots with links or slices or something.. you can export the image with the relevant html.. the html file will display the image and the hotspots with the html should work... but only if viewed in a browser.. the jpg itself will not have functioning links etc.. as it is only a picture. it's the code in the html that does this stuff.

does that help?

Well yes kind of. I can save (export) as a PDF, there is an option to save as PDF. I have tried this. But when goto preview in browser, all I have edited is ok. The problem I am having is when I save it, or export it rather.

I think it is to do with how I am saving it, I am unsure on that side of it. When I goto explorer, find the folder, in it there is a PSD folder with a PSD file in it. Also there is a HTML folder, in that there is an images folder and a HTML document.

The HTML document says that it was updated at, whenever I last saved it, and so does the PSD file, in the PSD folder. I click in the HTML doc, to launch it in explorer, and I see the original page, IE all the text I have edited has not saved.

When you say you have a template you want to edit, is it like a template for the whole HTML page, or for a small graphic which will sit within the page?

If you have designed the whole page in Photoshop, you don't really want to be making the whole page in Fireworks. Fireworks is more for making graphics and buttons which live within your web page.

Hope I have not misunderstood?

Helen.

Well, I think I am getting there, albeit slowly.

I have a template, you know at the top where it says, "Your Conpany Name", or "Your Site Name Here", that seems to be text on top of the image, which I can edit, I have edited it, I can get the page to look just fine in FW. How would I save it then? as a web page, links etc...........

I can not seem to edit the text in Dreamweaver, only FW.

Thanks for your help on this and quick response.....

I'm not really familiar with these psd web templates but I have had a quick look on the net and I think I know the sort of thing you are working with.

I think you need to slice it up into bits and put them back together in a table in Dreamweaver. You can then put links on the seperate images themselves when you are in Dreamweaver.

It isn't the best way in the world to make a website, but I appreciate that you are a beginner. I would recommend that you have a play around with Dreamweaver and you might be able to create at least parts of the page yourself in HTML.

Hope this helps,

Helen.
