Context >> I need to create 10 minutes of 'dead air' at the end of an audio promotion CD then introduce a bonus/secret url - giving access to a 'special zone'. It's for a kids promo and I am tring to cultivate that x-factor.

So I will need to make a Wav file of that length with nothing on it.

I have no software apart from Nero. And the usual stuff you get with XP

Any ideas?

Ben

Very good suggestion but I dont have a mic :(

Otherwise I could have recorded it and converted to wav via Nero.

<added>

Duh! Unless I dont need a mic to use the recorder...

I'll try it! :)

Ok Ben

Thinking about it, getting a mic could be a good idea anyway - It'd give me the chance to record direct to my PC instead of via minidisc and friends Mac/email

Anyone know of a cheap make of microphones and the software to create short but clean audio files. freeware if possible.

I tried your suggestion Ben.

The sound recorder ouputs to Wav as it's native :) It'll only record 1 minute at low quality (8bit i think) but I can copy it over as many times as I need it.

Bit of a hack but it's just a promo.

Hey Limbo :)

One way I know works is with the Soundforge program. t has an 'Insert silence' function where you simply place your cursor at any point in the wav and tell it to insert silence and a window pops up and you specify how much silence.

Depends if you want to spend the cash or not. If you do a lot of audio work Soundforge is a great investment :)
