Size of Favicons

Any way to make favicons smaller?

I’ve recently added a new favicon to our website. I noticed that the favicon file is pretty large for its dispaly size. I know that favicons are not just a file but act more like a storage system of a whole bunch of icons, but is there any way to make the file size smaller?

I’ve looked at a few sites and it looks like a lot are between 1.5K and 2.5K; although, I could be wrong.

Anyone have ideas how to make the file size smaller to increase speed?

Well usually is a 16 x 16 image made with 16 or 256 colors, but i think is better with just 16 colors...

So if you design an image with this characteristics, ot will be little enough, i mean talking about Kb.
