So what is "so '90s" in Web design?

What are you tired of seeing?

I've read threads on this site where people have said that's "so '90s" such as using drop-down menus ([webmasterworld.com ].

So what do people consider yesterday's news when it comes to general site design/look? Are you tired of seeing fish-eye pictures of people from above? If so, what else?

For me, it's irritating Javascript clocks floating around and some really bad color design: dark text on dark text. These come from people's personal blogs. :(

"you are the 1,000,000 visitor to this site, and you have won a car/cruise/small island"

advertising lack of forethought for beginning viewers with scary javascript warnings well after getting someone to log in to view something...(and possibly proving a monopoly is in place as well) :)

Although everyone desires the new Heckler und Koch P2000 , a good old tommy-gun will do the job as efficient!

Besides,a bad design is always bad design...th "so 90's" ain't that bad!if they are kept up to date on matters of coding and information they convey!

I know this post is old and it has probibally been mentioned before but I think the biggest piece of bad design (and thankfully most people have phased it out) is

Browser Specific Code!

(I mean like scripts and pages that will throw up errors if you are not using the author's faviourite browser.)

Javascripts that make floaty things behind the mouse pointer, or make the background images move on a page, or make the page fade in and out... Drives me nuts!

Beveled text and drop shadows.

Multiple pop ups
Difficult to read text with bad colors on a dark background.
Redirects
Too much scrolling
Page under construction
Tiled images on the background
too many images

If you believe the various Google threads on this site, the most 90s thing for a lot of people would be appearing in the SERPS :)

Never ventured out of the css forum, so I only read up to page 6 on this thread to get the gist:

Typical things:

Tables used for layout (if only little Timmy had enough time to sort those stylesheets out straight away, which is what he intended.)

Designers using micro-fonts

Designers using fonts that can't scale relatively.

Designers not caring about accesibility, just what looks cool.

Designers treating the web like it's print, and not using it for what it really is.

Spacer gifs

Catering for only one browser

Flash

"Ice" websites

Verdana

People not setting a background colour for their website when they want it be white, forgetting the configured background colour for some browsers isn't white.

It all depends on what part of the 90's you're talking about. A year in the real world is like several years in the IT world. Also, the WWW is relatively new.

Email campaigns have their place, but not in this list.
