Does anyone know is there is a shortcut for renaming a layer in Photoshop?
Another question: The status bar in Photoshop keeps disappearing. I keep putting it back, but when I start working in Photoshop de status bar disappears again. Does anyone know how to keep the status bar?

You should be able to rename a layer name by right clicking on it (in the layers pane) and change it on the Layer Properties option and rename it there.

You can also double click on the name of the layer and you can rename it directly - without bringing up a dialog box (in Photoshop 7 anyway). If you do it to a locked layer then it brings up the layer properties dialog box - and you can rename from there as mentioned above.
