My first and I'm a bit nervous ;) I came across a site that uses a gradient on lines. I've tried emulating the look in both Photoshop 7 and Fireworks MX but no luck. I tried using the line and pen tools, highlighting the line and then applying a gradient but it applies the gradient to the background (Photoshop 7) and the fade command doesn't give me the desired effect in Fireworks MX. I also drew a box and tried using a gradient, but I could only get the gradient to work inside the the box and not the edges. If not, is there a way to make a line taper off to achieve the same effect? I'm shooting for lines that have this look. [csszengarden.com...]
Thanks in advance

You can simulte a line gradient in fireworks by using the rectagle tool.

Draw any sized rectangle - set a fill colour (e.g.#000000) and nil value stroke colour (white box red strike through)

select:

> Window > Fill

> In the fill palette select 'linear' from the menu and toggle the effects

**this will produce your gradient fill

> Then select the rectangle with the arrow tool

> Window > info

> Set the height of the rectangle to 1

> Hit enter

> Voila! :)

No problem - I think the single row selection tool in PS will allow you produce the same effect - I never had a recipe ;)
