Inexpensive stock-art provider

Does anyone here have any experience with istockphoto.com? I just checked it out the other day and was impressed with the selection and quality of their artwork, but I can't believe the pricing. Fifty cents for a 4"x6", 300 dpi photograph? Sounds too good to be true, but I couldn't find a catch to it anywhere.

Any and all opinions/experiences are appreciated.

/the images are superb and cheap - and if you are interested you can add your own images and create credit for yourself.

Just signed up over the holiday...very impressed! Made a small deposit and have upgraded many of the graphics on our content site. They could improve their search results ( not as targeted as they could be) but I am not complaining...totally worth every penny!

Wow, thanks for the link. Been looking for images to do some branding for a service I run and the cheapest I'd found was $69 for one photo or $500 - $600 for a CD.

Yes the images are very cheap, but I have problems downloading them from Spain (on DSL). They always only half download.

They always email them to me if I do have problems though and are quick to reply to my emails.

Yeap, ever since RandomEye's Meta search for photos has been taken down I've had the same problem. --- That is, finding a range of photos on a given subject at different quality/price points.

I am uncertain what has happened exactly in the online commercial photo industry but there is an apparent consolidation by Getty so to monopolize and raise prices. So far it has worked. IMO

A list of current Internet photo resources would be very useful.

there is a free site that i have used, no need to credit the site on the page with the photos--just email the photographer to alert him/her/it as to where it is being displayed.

it is called stock xchange

they have about 60,000 photos--some are bad, some are real good.
