Cannot playback a .dat file. Need help.

Hi,

I have got a wedding cd saved in .dat format. When i tried to open it in windows media player, it gives me the following error message. What i have to do? Need help.

E.M: Cannot open. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again. (Error=8007001F)

Was it photographs or video?

You could try saving a copy of all the files and adding the extension .JPEG or .MPEG to the copies. It's a hack I know, but unless you are sure, the .dat files are basically just lumps of raw information. Well thats my basic understanding of it.
